Dramatic Writing for Stage
An active interrogation of the mechanics of playwriting, this course will creatively examine the use of dramatic action, character, location, narrative and structure in the making of a play. This course is useful both for playwrights at the beginning of their career and for writers who have written one or two plays and are looking to develop their craft.
Simon Stephens‘ many plays and adaptations have been produced throughout the world. They include Punk Rock, Heisenberg, Sea Wall and his adaptation of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. He is Associate Playwright at the Royal Court Theatre and Professor at the Writing School of Manchester Metropolitan University.
David Greig is an acclaimed and multi award-winning playwright who became the Artistic Director of The Lyceum in 2016. David’s most notable plays include The Events, The Strange Undoing of Prudencia Hart, Midsummer, Dunsinane and Europe. David’s adaptations recently seen on The Lyceum stage include Strindberg’s Creditors (2018) and Aeschylus’s The Suppliant Women (2016).
