Wha’s Like Us : Challenging Stigma Through Creativity

On Thursday 30th June we are hosting the second of five special writing workshops, delivered in collaboration with Spirit Advocacy and HUG: Action for Mental Health.

Stigma affects the lives of those living with mental illness around the Highlands. The HUG project is using Robert Burns and Scotland’s Year of Stories to deliver their anti stigma work; highlighting the effects of stigma through creativity including creative writing, audio and film and challenging people to think differently about mental illness.

Tutored by poet Aoife Lyall, this two hour workshop will open up the world of poetry, using the HUG project as a springboard to creative expression.

Aoife Lyall is the author of Mother, Nature (Bloodaxe Books, 2021), shortlisted for the Scottish First Book Award 2021. Her poems have been published in many prestigious literary magazines and journals, receiving national and international recognition through the Hennessy New Irish Writing Awards and an Emerging Scottish Writer award at Cove Park. In 2020, she was awarded National Lottery funding through Creative Scotland to write her second poetry collection. Her work focuses on tender and tragic experiences of pregnancy and motherhood. Aoife lives in the Scottish Highlands with her family. She is currently writing her first novel. https://www.aoifelyall.com/
